Weight management is something that I have always struggled with since I was a teenager. I used to starve myself in order to look thin. I would go without food for long periods of time and then get back to eating again. It was a vicious cycle of starving and stuffing my face.
I used to have very unhealthy diet. I had a massive addiction to fast food. During the times when I was eating, I wasn’t really nourishing my body. Since becoming a vegan, I have managed to change all of this. I eat at least 2 proper meals a day these days incorporated with fruits and tea. I do not consume any meat or dairy therefore, fast food is out of my life. Thank god for that. There were times when I used to wonder if I will ever stop being addicted to fast food.
After becoming a vegan, I lost around 3kgs (6 pounds). My BMI has come down to 25. BMI of 20 to 25 is considered the safe range. The risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other chronic illness are significantly lower if your BMI is between 20 and 25. I must say that I am satisfied with that but not overly happy.
Since life is short and unpredictable, I decided to start a weight loss project. I am calling it ‘my weight loss diary’. It is a simple excel spreadsheet containing the details of my weight for each day, a log of all things I eat and the physical activities that I undertake.
Today is Day 4. I have lost 1.2kg (2.6 pounds) so far. I have not changed my eating pattern drastically other than weighing my meals and increasing my physical activity. I have also incorporated the 16/8 intermittent fasting. I must say that I am wee bit happy that I have lost 1.2kg without making a huge effort.
After Day 5, I am going to start recording my calorie intake. I am not going to change it but just monitor it. I am going to cut down my consumption of processed vegan products and try to prepare my meals with less sauces.
